Effective from and Review by dates

Some facts have a shelf life. A price is right until the next change. A promotion ends on a date. A policy applies from a date. Effective from and Review by let you tell Serpio when a source is valid, so it writes from the source only inside that window and asks you to look again when the window closes.

The two dates

Effective from

The date the source starts informing new articles. Before it, the source is indexed and visible but excluded from retrieval, and its status reads Not effective yet. Leave it blank for immediately.

Review by

The date after which the source is excluded until you review it. Leave it blank for no expiry. Serpio rejects a review date that is not after the effective date with Review date must follow the effective date.

Both fields are optional date inputs in the Add knowledge modal and in the drawer under Source settings. Dates are stored at the start of the day in UTC.

The exclusion rule

The form states it plainly: after the review date, this source is excluded from future writing until you review it and update the date. Exclusion is complete for writing. Retrieval skips the source when listing eligible knowledge, and any passage that slips through ranking is dropped by the final check against the live record. The source is also excluded from internal-link candidates.

Statuses you will see

These two date statuses outrank version and freshness states in the list, so a source that is both past review and mid-refresh shows Review needed. The drawer's detail grid shows the raw Review by date, and the Use row echoes the status. Paused, processing, and failed states still take precedence over dates; see Versions, statuses, and source actions.

When to use them

• Pricing pages and rate cards. Set Review by to your next planned pricing review so stale numbers cannot be quoted.
• Seasonal promotions. Set Effective from to launch day and Review by to the last day, then add the source ahead of time.
• Time-limited offers and event pages. Same pattern; the source retires itself when the offer ends.
• Policy and compliance documents. Set Effective from to the date the policy applies and Review by to the next mandated review.
• Research reports and statistics. A Review by a year out reminds you to look for a newer edition.
• Anything you inherited from a colleague and have not read yet. A short Review by forces a check before it shapes articles.

Review and extend

   Find sources that need review

   On the Knowledge base page, look for rows whose status reads Review needed. The status is on the row as well as in the drawer.

   Check the content

   Open the source. Read the Preview and compare it with reality. For a URL, press Check URL now to fetch the current page; for a document, use Replace document if a newer file exists.

   Update the date

   Expand Source settings, set a new Review by (or clear it), and press Save settings. The status returns to Ready at once.

   Or retire it

   If the source is no longer true, press Pause use to keep it out of writing while retaining it, or Delete to remove it.

Articles already written

Passing a review date, extending it, or setting a new effective date changes nothing about idea collections or existing articles. Their text, their Knowledge used list, and their quality reports stay as they were, stamped with the knowledge revision that was current when they were generated. Every article started from now on sees the new window. If an older article quotes a fact that has now expired, edit or regenerate that article; Serpio does not do it for you.
