Chapter 04 · Ideas and planning

How the idea feed works

The idea workbench keeps a weekly collection of ten article ideas in your workspace. Here is where they come from, how refreshes work, and how one becomes an article.

On this page

The Idea workbench sits at the top of Home. It shows one app-owned collection of article ideas for the site you have selected, kept for at least a week. Every tile has its own permanent Serpio ID, so it can be saved, reused, or tied to an article even after a newer collection arrives. Nothing on it writes itself.

What the workbench shows

The header counts the collection, for example 8 ideas to explore. A short strip beneath it names the three moves: Explore, Shortlist and Create. Each tile has a title, a two-line description and up to two keyword tags. The star saves the idea for later. Use idea opens the article form with the idea filled in. Click the title to open the Idea details dialog, which is where the evidence lives.

Ideas with the same title across two focuses are grouped into one tile. Up to ten tiles show per page. If the collection has more, Previous and Next appear in the footer.

On a new site the workbench shows Preparing your first 10 ideas with a counter such as 3 of 10 ideas ready. Serpio checks progress every fifteen seconds for up to ten minutes. If the collection is still short after that, you see Your first collection needs more research with two choices: Explore N available ideas or Check preparation.

Where ideas come from

The content engine prepares candidates from public research for each confirmed content focus. It returns a completed set to the Serpio app; the app gives every idea its permanent ID and stores the collection. Opening or reloading Home reads that stored collection—it does not ask the engine or an AI model to generate it again.

The Knowledge Base is intentionally separate from ideas. It is searched only when you choose an idea and start writing an article, when its facts can help the brief and draft. Adding, removing, or rescanning Knowledge Base pages does not rebuild or erase your idea collection.

Each idea is also classed by timing. Timely ideas rest on a source published within the last seven days. Evergreen ideas answer a lasting question. An upload date, a refresh date or a review date never makes an idea timely.

Checks before an idea is shown

  • At least one current source with a readable excerpt. Sources marked stale are ignored.
  • Nothing that touches a topic your brand voice or Brand Book says to avoid.
  • Overlap between your focus name and keywords and both the idea and its evidence. A copied keyword is not enough on its own.
  • For timely ideas, a real publication date inside the seven-day window.
  • Not already covered. Articles you have generated, ideas you have saved, ideas you marked as not useful and articles already live on your site are all excluded.

The weekly collection and Refresh

Once a collection is ready, Serpio stores it in the app database for at least seven days. Reloading the page reads the same saved records and does not spend another model request. A worker prepares the scheduled weekly replacement in the background.

You can explicitly request a new collection up to three successful times per UTC calendar week. Pressing Refresh starts that work in the background while the current ten ideas remain usable. An unavailable engine or an interrupted attempt does not use the allowance and never replaces the current collection. The swap happens only after all ten new ideas are stored successfully.

When a new collection becomes current, the old one moves to Previous ideas rather than being deleted. Older ideas remain available for reference, saving, and reuse. Starting an article, saving an idea, or changing Knowledge Base content never invalidates the collection.

Why the count varies

  • Fewer than ten candidates passed the checks. Thin evidence means a shorter collection, not a lower bar.
  • Duplicate titles across focuses collapse into one tile.
  • Saved ideas remain in their collection and also appear in Saved ideas.
  • Ideas you have already used stay visible with a marker such as Used once and an Open article link, so reusing an angle is your choice.

The Your writing context card on Home carries a short status chip, for example 8 ideas ready or No eligible ideas yet. Every chip is explained in Idea statuses explained.

From idea to article

  1. 1

    Confirm your content focus first

Until you do, the workbench shows Review your content focus, saving is blocked and so is generation. See Reviewing your content focus.

  2. 2

    Open the idea

Click the tile title. The dialog shows the brief, and More details expands Timing, Angle, Reader benefit, Why it fits your brand, Supporting sources and Search keywords.

  3. 3

Choose Generate article or Plan idea

Generate article opens the Generate article form with the idea pre-filled and its research attached. You review tone, style and length before anything runs. Plan idea saves it with a date instead. See Saving, scheduling and dismissing ideas.

  4. 4

    Press Generate

The article is queued and Articles opens with its progress. Only a completed article uses a credit.

Common questions

  • Does the feed change while I am looking at it?

No. Your current collection is stored in Serpio for a full week. It changes only after the weekly refresh or an explicit Refresh successfully prepares ten new ideas. A failed or slow refresh never removes the current collection.

  • Why do I see ideas from only one of my focuses?

The collection balances focus and timing where it can, but only eligible ideas are shown. If one focus has no candidate with usable evidence, the other fills the collection.

  • Can I see more than ten ideas?

The current collection contains ten ideas. Open Previous ideas beneath it to revisit, save, or reuse ideas from older collections.
