Chapter 01 · How-to guides
How to edit and approve an article
Open a draft, edit the body and SEO fields, let it save, get past the quality check, select a destination, and approve it with Publish.

By the end the draft is Ready to publish or already on its way to a destination. Editing takes as long as you want; the approval is one click, and the quality check between the two usually finishes in under a minute. Any plan can edit and approve. Sending to a native connection needs a paid plan; exports work on Free.
Before you start
- A generated draft in Articles. See how to create an article from your own topic.
- Its hero image finished or failed. While it is generating, Publish is disabled.
- At least one connected destination that you can select in the Publish dialog. See how to connect a publishing destination.
Steps
- 1
Open the draft
Click the article card in Articles, or its entry under Recent articles on Home. The status pill in the top bar reads Draft.
- 2
Edit the title, summary and body
Type straight into the title field and the summary box ("Add a concise summary for readers and CMS excerpts"). In the body, use the toolbar: Bold, Italic, H2, H3, Text, Bullet list, Numbered list and Add link. Pasted HTML is cleaned automatically.
- 3
Edit the SEO fields
Open Search appearance. Adjust SEO title (30 to 60 characters is the range the SEO score wants), SEO description (120 to 160; the counter shows the length out of 160), Slug and Keywords and tags. Under Featured image, rewrite Image alt text if the generated one misses the point.
- 4
Let it save
There is no Save button. About a second after you stop, the top bar shows Saving and then Saved. Each save creates a new revision and starts a fresh quality check. If you see Save failed, press Retry.
- 5
Check the evidence
Open Public sources and Knowledge used. Anything you added by hand must be supported by a source the reviewer can see, or link to a page that says it. An unsupported claim will stop the approval in step 7.
- 6
Press Publish
Press Publish in the top bar. The Publish article dialog lists your connected platforms with their delivery setting: Save as draft, Publish live, or create on the platform. Tick the ones you want, or none.
- 7
Approve
With at least one platform selected, the button reads Publish. It approves the current draft and queues only those selected deliveries.
- 8
Read the result
The dialog shows a forward-only path from Request received to Sending to Confirmed. It shows Draft saved, Live or Created on success, and Action needed only when a connection or destination setting requires you. Press Done. The status pill now reads Ready to publish or Sent.
What happens next
- Approval freezes a content snapshot. Every delivery in that batch sends exactly what you approved, even if you keep typing.
- Deliveries run in the background. The workspace polls for results and Publishing history gains a card per destination.
- If you edit again, the article returns to Draft, the approval is cleared and checks run again. Finished deliveries stay in history.
If something looks off
- A temporary platform or queue interruption stays on Still publishing. You can leave the page; Serpio keeps the durable request and continues in the background.
- The result says "The article changed. Reload it and complete checks before approving." Another save landed while the dialog was open. Reload the page and approve the revision you can see.
- Publish is disabled with "Wait for the hero image to finish generating". Give it a minute. It retries on its own and fails safely after three attempts, at which point Publish returns.
- The dialog says "Connect a platform to publish your article." and the button stays disabled. Approval in Serpio happens as part of sending. Connect a destination, or use Export instead; see how to export an article.
- A platform shows Action needed only for a real connection, permission or destination-setting problem. Fix it under Connections, then press Publish on that card in Publishing history.

Common questions
Is there a separate Approve button?
No. Approval happens inside the Publish article dialog after you select at least one platform and press Publish.
Can I approve without sending anywhere?
No. For a manually generated article, select at least one destination in Publish. Without destinations, export the article instead; exports need a passing check but not an approval.
Can I undo an approval?
Edit the article. Any saved change returns it to Draft and clears the approval.
