Chapter 01 · How-to guides
How to manage your plan and billing
Pick a currency, subscribe through Razorpay, read the subscription card, change plans, cancel or resume, and find invoices and refunds. About five minutes on any plan.

By the end you will know how to move between Free, Starter, Growth and Scale, what each action charges, and where to find the paper trail. Any single action takes a couple of minutes plus the Razorpay window. Billing belongs to the account, not to a site, so nothing here changes when you switch sites.
Before you start
- Know which plan you need. Plans and writing credits has the table.
- Decide the currency before the first subscription. INR includes GST; USD is for customers outside India. It locks once a subscription exists.
- Have a payment method Razorpay accepts. Serpio never sees card, UPI or bank details.
- Do not open two checkouts at once. Finish or close one before starting another.
Steps
- 1
Open Billing
Use Billing in the top-bar profile menu, Manage billing on Account, or View plan on the Home credits card. The page is headed Billing, with Plans and Invoice history below.
- 2
Choose a currency (first subscription only)
Under the header, Bill in: offers INR (₹) and USD ($). Leave both alone and Serpio detects your country; pick one to override, and an auto link appears to undo it. Prices in the plan cards update to match.
- 3
Subscribe through Razorpay
Click Upgrade to Starter, Upgrade to Growth or Upgrade to Scale. The button reads Opening checkout… and the Razorpay window opens. Authorise the mandate. You return to Billing with a processing status; within a couple of minutes a toast says Plan activated.
- 4
Read the Current subscription card
It names the tier, currency and Razorpay subscription ID, shows a badge (normally Active), and three stats: Next billing, Charges so far, and Auto-renews or Ends on.
- 5
Change plan
On a paid plan the card buttons read Upgrade to growth or Downgrade to starter (tier ids in lower case). An upgrade opens Confirm upgrade: today's full charge, a prorated refund of the unused days, the net, and an Authorise & pay button. A downgrade opens Confirm downgrade: nothing today, the switch date, the next charge, and Schedule switch. Both ask Razorpay for a new mandate.
- 6
Cancel or resume
Scroll to Cancel subscription, click the button, and confirm Cancel at cycle end in the Cancel subscription? dialog. The card now shows Ends on and a banner with Resume subscription, which asks for a new mandate and keeps the plan running without a gap.
- 7
Find invoices and refunds
Invoice history lists Date, Plan, Amount, Status and Payment ID. There is no download button; the payment ID is what support asks for. Refunds appear as Partially refunded or Refunded in the status column, and a green banner sits at the top of the page while an upgrade refund is processing.
What happens next
Your plan flips when Razorpay confirms activation, and the credit limit rises at that moment without resetting the month's count. A downgrade keeps the higher tier until the cycle ends. A cancellation keeps access to the end of the cycle, then drops you to Free with no further charge. Upgrade refunds settle in about 5 to 7 business days to the original payment method. Razorpay sends the notices before each renewal debit.
If something looks off
- Billing still shows processing after a couple of minutes. The page stops polling at two minutes and asks you to reload; if the plan is still not active, contact support with the subscription ID.
- The Bill in: toggle is gone. A subscription exists; currency is locked to it, including for plan changes.
- The badge reads Retrying payment. An auto-debit failed and Razorpay is retrying. Click Update payment method before retries run out.
- The badge reads Halted. Retries ran out and the plan is suspended. Update payment method restores it, or email support with the subscription ID if no link is shown.
- You closed the Razorpay window. A toast says "Checkout closed. No subscription was created." Choose a plan again.
- You were charged the full new price on upgrade. Expected. The unused days of the old plan are refunded automatically; watch the green banner.
Go deeper
- Billing, payments and refunds for every badge, banner and the refund policy.
- Plans and writing credits for the tier table and how credits are counted.
- Account settings for the Plan card and what deleting an account does to a subscription.
- Managing multiple sites for how one plan serves several sites.
Common questions
Can I switch currency later?
Not on an existing subscription. Cancel, let the cycle end, then subscribe again in the other currency.
Is there a refund if I cancel mid-cycle?
No. Cancellation is not prorated. The exception is the 14-day money-back guarantee on your first charge; email support with your payment ID.
Do I lose paid features the moment I downgrade?
No. You keep the higher tier until the current cycle ends.
